What is Limaysaurus?

Limaysaurus was a very big dinosaur that lived a long, long time ago. It was a type of long-necked dinosaur called a sauropod. These amazing animals had long necks and tails and were some of the largest creatures ever to walk on Earth.

Where Did Limaysaurus Live?

Limaysaurus lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 99.7 to 94 million years ago. Fossils of Limaysaurus were found in South America, especially in a place called northwestern Patagonia.

Discovering Limaysaurus

Scientists first found Limaysaurus fossils in Argentina in 1988. These fossils include parts of the skull and skeleton. The name Limaysaurus comes from the Río Limay, a river near where it was found. Studying these fossils helps scientists learn about life from millions of years ago.
