What is MP3?

MP3 is a special way to store music and other sounds on computers and phones. It was made by the Fraunhofer Society in Germany. The goal was to make music files smaller so they take up less space, but still sound good.

Why Do We Use MP3?

In the past, music files were very big, like the ones on CDs. MP3 helps make these files much smaller. This was very useful when people had slower Internet connections and less storage space on their devices.

How MP3 Works

MP3 uses something called "lossy compression." This means it removes tiny parts of the sound that most people can't hear. By doing this, MP3 files become much smaller while still sounding nice. For example, a song might be a small MP3 file instead of a big CD file.

MP3 Today

Even though there are newer ways to store music, like AAC, MP3 is still very popular. Most smartphones and portable media players can play MP3 files. This is because MP3 works well and saves space, which is why we still use it today.
