King Maximilian II of Bavaria

Maximilian II was born on 28 November 1811 in Munich. He became the King of Bavaria in 1848. He grew up in a royal family and learned a lot in schools like Göttingen and Berlin. He loved learning and wished he could have been a teacher instead of a king.

As king, Maximilian wanted to keep Bavaria peaceful and strong. He worked hard to make Munich a special place for art and learning. He invited smart people and artists to live there. He also helped build many beautiful buildings in the city.

Maximilian II married Marie Friederike Franziska Hedwig in 1842. They had two sons, who later became kings of Bavaria: Ludwig II of Bavaria and Otto, King of Bavaria. Sadly, the king became unwell and passed away in 1864. People remember him for helping artists and making Munich a lovely city.

Maximilian II liked to travel and often went to the countryside when he was at home. He also received many special awards from other countries, showing friendly ties between nations.
