The Memphis Zoo is a fun place to visit in Midtown, Memphis, Tennessee. It is a big zoo with more than 3,500 animals from over 500 different species. People love to go there to see animals from all around the world.

The zoo started in April 1906 and has been in Overton Park for more than 100 years. The land for the zoo was set aside in 1888 and is owned by the City of Memphis. It covers 76 acres, and about 55 acres are used for its exhibits.

The Memphis Zoo is very special because it was named the "#1 Zoo in the U.S." by TripAdvisor in 2008. It has three main zones with 19 different exhibits. Some fun places to see are Teton Trek, Northwest Passage, and China. You can see animals like elephants, giraffes, polar bears, and even pandas (though not right now).

The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which means it works hard to take care of animals and teach people about them. There are also fun things to do like rides, a miniature train, gift shops, and places to eat. In the winter, you can even go ice-skating!
