Michelangelo was a very talented artist who lived a long time ago in Italy. He was born on March 6, 1475, in a town near Arezzo. Even as a young boy, he loved to draw and work with marble, a kind of stone.
Michelangelo could create beautiful sculptures, paintings, and buildings. Two of his most famous sculptures are the Pietà and David. The Pietà shows the Virgin Mary holding Jesus, and David is a big statue of a strong young man. People loved these works so much that Michelangelo became famous very early in his life.
He also painted huge pictures on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. These paintings tell stories from the Bible and are very famous today. Michelangelo was also good at designing buildings. He helped design St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, which is one of the most important churches in the world.
Michelangelo was called "Il Divino," meaning "the divine one," because people admired his amazing art. He lived until 1564 and is remembered as one of the greatest artists ever. His works can still be seen in museums and churches around the world.
