What is a Monkey?

Monkeys are clever animals that are part of a big family called primates. They are close relatives of apes and humans. Monkeys come in many shapes and sizes, from very tiny ones to larger ones.

Where Do Monkeys Live?

There are two main groups of monkeys. Old World monkeys, like baboons, live in Africa and Asia. New World monkeys, like marmosets, live in South America. Some monkeys live in trees, while others live on the ground.

Monkeys love to play and are very smart. They can use tools and solve problems. Many monkeys have special tails that help them swing from tree to tree. Monkeys eat many things, like fruits, leaves, and sometimes small insects.

Monkeys appear in stories and myths from many cultures. For example, the famous character Sun Wukong from Chinese tales is a monkey. In Hinduism, monkeys can represent courage and strength. People often see monkeys in zoos, where they can watch these playful animals up close.
