Montgomery is the capital city of Alabama. It sits beside the Alabama River and is a busy place with over 200,000 people living there. Montgomery is the third-largest city in Alabama, after Huntsville and Birmingham.

A Place Full of History

Long ago, the area near the Alabama River was home to the Alibamu tribe of Native Americans. They built large dirt mounds for important reasons. Later, settlers from Europe arrived, and Montgomery grew quickly. In 1846, it became the state capital of Alabama.

Montgomery has many important buildings, like the Alabama State Capitol. It is also a place with a rich history, including events from the middle of the 20th century that helped change the world.

Fun Things to Do

Today, Montgomery is a lively city with many things to see and do. You can visit the Montgomery Zoo, where over 500 animals live in beautiful habitats. The zoo is fun for kids and families.

You can also explore the Winton M. Blount Cultural Park, which has the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Here, you can see beautiful paintings, prints, and glass works.

Another fun spot is the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. It is a theater where you can watch exciting plays, just like the ones written by Shakespeare.

Montgomery has many parks and places to play. There are over 1,600 acres of parkland, with playgrounds, sports fields, and even a skate park. The city also has a riverboat you can ride for fun!

The city is home to many schools, including Alabama State University and Troy University. It is a place where people can learn and grow.
