Mousterian

The Mousterian was a special kind of old stone tool made a very long time ago. These tools are mostly linked to the Neanderthals, who lived in Europe. Some of these tools were also made by the earliest anatomically modern humans in North Africa and West Asia.

People used Mousterian tools from about 160,000 to 40,000 years ago. After that, new kinds of tools called the Aurignacian were used by Homo sapiens.

The name Mousterian comes from a place called Le Moustier in France. Similar tools have been found in many places, including Syria, Afghanistan, and England.

These tools were made using special methods, like the Levallois technique, to shape flint into useful shapes such as handaxes and points. Tools from this time have been found in caves and other spots all over the world, showing how clever ancient people were.
