Mumbai

Mumbai is a big, busy city in India. It is the capital of the state called Maharashtra. Mumbai is very important because it is full of people—about 12.5 million—and it is the financial heart of India.

Mumbai sits on the west coast of India, along the Konkan coast. The city has a deep natural harbour, which helps ships come and go easily. Long ago, Mumbai was made from seven small islands that were joined together.

Today, Mumbai is like another famous city, New York City, in many ways. It is where big money matters happen, like at the Bombay Stock Exchange. Mumbai is also famous for Bollywood, the big film industry that makes lots of movies.

People from all over India come to Mumbai to find work and build their lives. The city is full of energy, tall buildings, and many different kinds of food. It is a place where old history meets new opportunities, making Mumbai one of the most exciting cities in the world.
