New Orleans is a lively city in Louisiana along the Mississippi River. It is the biggest city in the state and is famous for its special music, tasty Creole cuisine, and fun festivals, especially Mardi Gras.
The old part of the city, called the French Quarter, has beautiful old buildings. One of its busy streets is Bourbon Street, full of music and joy.
People have lived in New Orleans since 1718 when French people started the city. It was an important place for trade because it was close to the water. Sometimes, the water caused problems, like during a big storm in 2005. But the city has kept growing and changing.

The city’s name comes from Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, who helped rule France. New Orleans has fun nicknames like The Big Easy and NOLA, which is a short way to say New Orleans, Louisiana.
New Orleans is also famous for its sports teams. The New Orleans Saints play football, and the New Orleans Pelicans play basketball. The city has a big stadium called the Caesars Superdome where many games happen.
The city has many places to visit, like parks, museums, and special neighborhoods. It is a popular place for tourists who love music, food, and history.
