Who was Norio Taniguchi?

Norio Taniguchi was a clever teacher from Japan. He worked at the Tokyo University of Science. He loved to study tiny things and find new ways to shape materials very carefully.

The Birth of a Big Idea

In 1974, Professor Taniguchi made up the word nano-technology. He used it to talk about working with pieces of materials that are super-duper small. His idea helped start a whole new way of thinking about tiny parts.

Looking into the Future

For many years, Taniguchi watched how people made things better and smaller. He guessed that one day, scientists could make things even tinier than we could imagine. His thoughts and work helped guide many people in the field of machining today.

An Honor for His Work

In 1999, just before he passed away, Taniguchi got a special award from a group in Europe. They gave him the first Lifetime Achievement Award for his amazing work with tiny materials and for creating the term nano-technology. His ideas still help scientists today!
