What is a Photograph?
A photograph is a special kind of picture made when light hits something special, like a piece of film or a camera. We call these pictures photos for short. Today, most people use a smartphone or a camera to take photos. These devices use a small glass piece called a lens to focus light and make a picture just like our human eye would see.
Why Do We Love Photographs?
Photographs help us remember happy moments, like birthdays or trips. We share them with friends and family to show what we have done. They are also used in books, newspapers, and on websites to help us learn about the world. Because photos show real moments, they help us understand history, nature, and everyday life better than words alone.
Fun Facts About Photos
The word photograph was created in 1839 by a scientist named Sir John Herschel. It comes from Greek words meaning “drawing with light.” The very first picture was made in 1822 by a man named Nicéphore Niépce. At first, taking photos took many hours, but now we can take pictures in just a second!
How Do We Keep Photos Safe?
To keep photos safe, we can put them in special folders made from acid-free paper. These folders protect the pictures from damage. We can also place photos in polyester sleeves to keep them clean and safe from dirt. Always handle photos gently and keep them in a cool, dry place.
