The pope is the leader of the Catholic Church all around the world. He is also called the bishop of Rome. Today, the pope is Leo XIV. He became pope in 2025.

Why People Know About the Pope

The pope’s job is very important in the Catholic Church. People follow what he says about their faith. The pope helps bring different Christian groups together and talks with people of other religions, too. He also works on charitable work, helping those in need.

A Very Old Job

The job of the pope is one of the oldest in the world. It started a long time ago with Saint Peter and Saint Paul. These two important people helped start the church in Rome. For many years, popes have helped spread what Christians believe.

Helping People

Today, popes work to make peace and help people. They talk with leaders from many places. They also support schools and hospitals around the world. The pope lives in Vatican City, a very small country in Europe. This special place is just for the pope and the church.

The pope has many titles, but the most common one is just “pope,” which means “father.” This sweet name shows that the pope is like a father to many people.
