The Very Old Time of Earth

The Precambrian is the name for the very first part of our Earth's story. It is the time before the world we know today. This long, long time started when Earth was brand new, about 4.6 billion years ago, and went until about 539 million years ago.

The Precambrian is split into three big parts called eons: the Hadean, the Archean, and the Proterozoic. During these times, Earth changed a lot. It started as a very hot and glowing ball, and slowly cooled down. Bits of land began to form, and the sky changed.

One of the biggest changes happened when very small life began. Tiny bacteria started to live in the water. They were the first living things on Earth. Later, the air changed too. These tiny plants made something called oxygen, which helped life grow in new ways.

Scientists study very old rocks to learn about this amazing time. These rocks tell us how Earth went from a new, hot planet to the beautiful world we live on today. The Precambrian helps us understand our planet's amazing journey!
