Punctuation

Punctuation marks are special symbols we use in writing. They help us read sentences and understand them better. These little marks tell us when to pause and show feelings. They make sure our words mean what we want them to mean.

Long ago, people wrote without any breaks between words. Around 500 BC, the Greeks began using dots to help when reading texts out loud. These dots showed where to pause and how to speak.

Today, punctuation helps us avoid confusion. The way we place a comma can change the meaning of a sentence. Rules for punctuation change depending on the language, place, and time. People often use punctuation in fun ways in messages and online chats.

Different Punctuation Marks

Here are some common punctuation marks you might see:

  • Period (.): This marks the end of a sentence.
  • Comma (,): This shows a pause in a sentence or lists things.
  • Question Mark (?): This shows a question.
  • Exclamation Mark (!): This shows excitement or strong feeling.

These marks make writing clearer and more fun to read!
