Pylos is a lovely little town in Messenia, Peloponnese, in Greece. It is close to the Bay of Navarino and has been an important place for thousands of years.
Today, Pylos is part of the municipality Pylos-Nestoras and has about 2,568 people. The area has been lived in since very old times, called the Neolithic period.
One famous place nearby is the "Palace of Nestor", named after a king from stories in the Iliad by Homer. This palace is one of the best-preserved from ancient times.
Pylos has a beautiful coastline and is popular with tourists. It has good roads and all the services a city needs. The town has many stone houses from the 1800s, built with gardens and narrow streets.
Every year, Pylos holds fun celebrations called the "Navarinia" to remember an important sea battle from long ago. These celebrations include parades, music, dancing, fireworks, and a special show by the navy.
Pylos has been home to many famous people. Nestor, a wise king from Greek mythology, was from Pylos. In more recent times, important leaders and explorers have also been linked to Pylos.
