A City with a Rich History
Reims has a long and interesting history. People lived there a very long time ago, even when the Gauls were around. Later, during the time of the Roman Empire, the city grew and became very important. The most famous thing about Reims is that it is where French kings were crowned. This special ceremony happened at the beautiful Cathedral of Reims. Inside the cathedral, there was a very old and special religious object called the Holy Ampulla.
Beautiful Buildings and Special Places
Today, Reims is known for its many old and beautiful buildings. You can see styles from Roman times all the way to modern Art-déco. In 1991, some very special places in Reims were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These places include the Reims Cathedral, the Palace of Tau, and the Abbey of Saint-Remi.
Reims is also very close to the Champagne wine region. This makes it an important place for making and trading champagne. You can even visit caves where the champagne is aged and learn all about how it is made!
