Who Was Robert Darwin?
Robert Waring Darwin was a kind and smart doctor who lived a long time ago, from 1766 to 1848. He was part of a special family called the Darwin–Wedgwood family. People remember him best because he was the father of Charles Darwin, a famous scientist who learned how plants and animals change over many years.
Where Did Robert Darwin Live?
Robert Darwin was born in Lichfield. He studied to become a doctor in Edinburgh and the Netherlands. When he was young, he started working as a doctor in Shrewsbury. He loved gardening and took very good care of the garden at their home, called The Mount. Robert was also known for helping build important roads in his town.
Robert Darwin’s Family
Robert Darwin married a lovely woman named Susannah Wedgwood. She was the daughter of a famous pottery maker named Josiah Wedgwood. They had six children together, and one of them was the scientist Charles Robert Darwin. The family lived happily and was very close to each other.
