San Siro
San Siro is a very big stadium in Milan, Italy. It is in the San Siro district. People call it “La Scala del calcio,” which means “The Scala of football” in Italian. It is the biggest stadium in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.
Two famous football teams play there: AC Milan and Inter Milan. They have special matches called the Derby della Madonnina. The stadium was named after Giuseppe Meazza, a player who won two World Cups and played for Inter Milan.
San Siro has hosted many important events. It was used for games in the 1934 FIFA World Cup, the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Euro 1980, and several European Cup finals. It will also hold the opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Getting to San Siro
The stadium is easy to reach. You can take the subway to the San Siro subway station on line M5. There is also a tram stop right at the stadium on tram line 16. Another subway stop, Lotto subway station on line M1 and line M5, is about a 15-minute walk away.
Home Games
Many fans watch the home games of AC Milan and Inter Milan. In the 2023-24 season, AC Milan had an average of 72,008 fans per game, and Inter Milan had 72,838 fans per game. In the 2022-23 season, AC Milan had 71,828 fans, and Inter Milan had 72,630 fans.
