The Scheldt River

The Scheldt is a long, winding river that flows through three countries: France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It starts in a small town called Gouy and travels all the way to the North Sea. Along its journey, it passes many beautiful cities and towns.

People have used the Scheldt for travel and trade for a very long time. It helped connect places far apart, making it easier for boats to carry goods. Even today, the river is busy with ships and boats moving up and down its waters.

The river has many smaller rivers that flow into it, called tributaries. One important tributary is the Lys, which joins the Scheldt near the city of Ghent. These smaller rivers add to the beauty and life of the Scheldt.

The Scheldt is special because it has been part of history for thousands of years. It was once called Scaldis by ancient people and helped travelers reach faraway places. Today, the river continues to be a friendly path for boats and a lovely sight for everyone who lives near it.
