The Six Dynasties

The Six Dynasties was a special time in ancient China. It lasted from about 220 to 589. During this time, many different rulers led the country. This made it a busy time for change and new ideas.

Most of the rulers lived in a city called Jiankang. Today, this city is known as Nanjing. In the north, other rulers also led their own parts of China.

This time was very important for art and writing. Poets wrote beautiful poems about love and nature. One famous book from this time is called New Songs from the Jade Terrace. People loved to read it.

Buddhism also grew very popular during the Six Dynasties. It brought new thoughts and traditions to the people. Scholars still study this time to learn more about China's rich history.
