Welcome to South Australia!

South Australia, often called SA, is a big and beautiful part of Australia. It is the fourth largest state and has many different landscapes, from dry lands to sunny coastlines.

Where It Is

South Australia is in the southern part of Australia. It shares borders with Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. It also has a long coastline along the Great Australian Bight. The capital city is Adelaide, where most people live. Other smaller towns include Mount Gambier.

A Special History

People have lived in South Australia for about 20,000 years. Early explorers from Europe first saw the coast in 1627. South Australia became a British colony in 1834. It was special because it welcomed free immigrants and promised fair treatment. Today, it is known for its wonderful wines and many cultural events.

South Australia is famous for its wine! Places like the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale make some of the best wines in Australia. The state also has beautiful areas like the Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island.
