Southern Europe
Southern Europe is a warm and sunny part of Europe. It is called Mediterranean Europe because it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. This special place has three main parts, or peninsulas: the Iberian Peninsula, the Italian Peninsula, and the Balkan Peninsula.
The area has tall mountains like the Pyrenees, the Alps, and the Balkan Mountains. These mountains help make Southern Europe very warm and sunny. The weather there is called the Mediterranean climate. It has dry summers and wet winters, which is perfect for growing things like olive trees and grapes.
Southern Europe has a rich history. Ancient groups like the Phoenicians built trade routes along the coasts. Later, Ancient Greece and Rome helped shape the whole of European civilization. During the Age of Discovery, explorers from Southern Europe sailed to new places, like Latin America.
The geography of Southern Europe is very interesting. It touches the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Black Sea on the east. Some countries in this area are Portugal, Spain, Italy, Malta, Albania, Greece, and Cyprus. Each of these places has its own special traditions and beautiful landscapes.
Southern Europe is known for its friendly people, tasty food, and lovely beaches. It is a place where history, nature, and culture come together to make something very special.
