What is a Spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is like a digital notebook that helps us organize and calculate numbers and information. It looks like a grid with rows and columns, just like the pages in a notebook. Each small box where a row and column meet is called a cell. You can put numbers, words, or even special math rules called formulas in these cells.
How Do Spreadsheets Work?
In a spreadsheet, you can type information into cells. If you change a number in one cell, the spreadsheet can quickly update other cells that use that number. This makes it easy to see how changes affect the whole sheet. For example, if you are counting your candies and you add more, the spreadsheet can update the total for you.
Spreadsheets also have many sheets, called worksheets, all stored in a workbook. You can switch between these sheets using small tabs at the bottom of the screen.
Why Are Spreadsheets Important?
Spreadsheets started as tools for accounting, which means keeping track of money, but now people use them for many things. They help organize lists, make plans, and do statistics. Whether you are planning a party budget or keeping track of your toy collection, spreadsheets can make things easier.
