Stanford University, often called Stanford, is a big school in Stanford, California in the United States. It was started in 1885 by a couple named Leland and Jane Stanford to remember their son, Leland Jr. The school opened its doors to students in 1891 and welcomed both boys and girls from the very beginning.
Stanford is one of the largest school campuses in the country. It has seven different schools where students can learn many things, like science, engineering, and medicine. The school is famous for its strong programs in research and has helped create many new ideas and companies. Some of these companies became very famous, like Google and Yahoo!.
Students at Stanford enjoy many sports and have won many championships. They also have fun traditions, like a big football game called the "Big Game" against another school. There are also many clubs and groups for students to join, with over 600 different options!
Stanford is known for its beautiful campus, which has big green spaces and special buildings. It is located near San Francisco and San Jose, in a place called Silicon Valley. Many important leaders, scientists, and inventors have come from Stanford, making it a special place for learning and growing.
