Sun Yat-sen

Sun Yat-sen was a very important person in China’s history. He was born on November 12, 1866, in a village called Cuiheng in Guangdong, China. His family did not have much money, but he went to school in Hawaii and later studied medicine in Hong Kong.

Sun Yat-sen is best known for helping to change China. He worked with many people to end the old ways of ruling and helped start a new government called the Republic of China. In 1912, he became the first president of this new government, called the Provisional Government of the Republic of China.

Sun had many ideas about how to make China better. He called these ideas the Three Principles of the People. These ideas were about making China united, giving people more say in government, and improving life for everyone.

Today, Sun Yat-sen is remembered as a hero in both Taiwan and mainland China. Places like schools, streets, and parks are named after him to honor his work.

Sun had many different names during his life. His family name was Sun Deming, and as a baby, he was called Tai Tseung. In school, he was known as Sun Wen. He also used special names when he needed to hide, like Sun Zhongshan.

Sun Yat-sen’s ideas and work helped shape modern China. He believed in making China strong and fair for all its people. His memory lives on in many places around the world, showing how important his role was in China’s history.
