Welcome to Times Square!
Times Square is a very bright and busy place in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is where three big streets meet: Broadway, Seventh Avenue, and 42nd Street. Imagine lots of colorful lights and big screens—it’s very lively here!
This place is famous because many people visit it. You can see lots of theaters, shops, and fun things to do. It is the center of the Theater District, where most Broadway shows happen. Every year, millions of visitors come to enjoy the bright lights and excitement.
Long ago, this place was called Longacre Square. It got its new name in 1904 after The New York Times moved its office there. One of the most special events is the New Year’s Eve ball drop. Every year, a shiny ball is lowered down a pole, and millions of people watch it on digital media all around the world. Times Square is often called “the Crossroads of the World” because so many people walk through it every day.
Times Square looks like a big bowtie with two triangle parts. It is bordered by West 42nd Street, West 47th Street, Seventh Avenue, and Broadway. In the northern triangle, called Duffy Square, there are statues and a ticket booth for Broadway shows.
People love to visit Times Square for its bright lights, theaters, and special events. It is a symbol of New York City and a place full of energy and fun for everyone!
