Tonian

Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience

A stunning view of Earth from space, showing our planet as a beautiful blue marble floating in the vastness of space.

The Tonian was an early time in Earth's history. It happened from about 1000 to 720 million years ago. This was a very long time before humans or even dinosaurs lived.

The Tonian got its name from a Greek word meaning "stretch." This is because scientists think it shows how far back Earth's story goes.

During the Tonian, Earth had a big landmass called Rodinia. Early life was growing too. Tiny green things called algae and other small organisms began to appear. This was an exciting time for life on our planet.
