Vanua Levu

Vanua Levu is the second biggest island in Fiji. It is about 64 kilometres, or 40 miles, north of the largest island, Viti Levu. Many people live here—about 160,000!

The name "Vanua Levu" means "Big Land" in the local language. Long ago, it was called Sandalwood Island. Today, it is an important home for many families.

Vanua Levu has tall mountains and green forests. Two of the biggest towns are Labasa and Savusavu. Labasa is important for growing sugar cane. Savusavu is a nice place for tourists who love diving and yachting.

Ferries help people travel between Vanua Levu and other islands like Viti Levu and Ovalau. This makes it easier for everyone to visit and explore.
