Vojvodina
Vojvodina is a special area in the northern part of Serbia. It is made up of four regions: Bačka, Banat, Syrmia, and a small part of Mačva. These places sit just north of the capital city, Belgrade, and are bordered by the Sava and Danube rivers.
Vojvodina is home to many people—about 1.7 million. The biggest city here is Novi Sad, which is the second largest city in all of Serbia. This area is special because many different kinds of people live there, making it a place of rich cultures and history.
A Land of Many Languages
The name "Vojvodina" comes from an old word meaning a kind of leader called a voivode. Long ago, this area tried to be its own small country inside a bigger one called the Austrian Empire. Today, people in Vojvodina speak six different official languages! These are Serbian, Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian, Croatian, and Pannonian Rusyn. This makes Vojvodina a colorful mix of traditions and languages.
Beautiful Land and Farms
Vojvodina sits on a flat land called the Pannonian Plain. The soil here is very rich and good for growing things. Farmers grow lots of wheat, maize, and other crops. There are also special hills like Fruška Gora and the Vršac Mountains, where people grow grapes for yummy drinks.
