Vostok Station

Vostok Station is a special place where scientists work in Antarctica. It is very cold there, and it is one of the coldest spots on Earth. People from Russia built it in 1957.

Scientists at Vostok Station study ice to learn about the weather from long ago. They look at tiny pieces of ice to see how hot or cold it was many years before. This helps us understand how Earth changes.

Vostok Station is far from the Geographic South Pole. Only a few scientists stay there during the dark, cold winter. In summer, more scientists come to work and learn.

Under the ice, there is a big lake called Lake Vostok. It is very deep and was found by scientists using special tools. This lake is one of the largest in the world and is hidden under thousands of meters of ice.
