William the Conqueror was a very important leader from a long time ago. He was born in France in a place called Normandy. Even though he started life in a tricky way, he grew up to become a powerful ruler.
William is best known for becoming the first Norman king of England. He took control of England in the year 1066. Before that, he was already the Duke of Normandy, which means he ruled that part of France.
One of William’s biggest achievements was creating something called the Domesday Book. This was a huge book that listed every piece of land in England and who owned it. It helped him keep track of everything and make good decisions for his country.
William liked to build strong places called castles. These helped him keep control of his new land. He also brought many new people from Normandy to live in England, which changed the country in many ways.
William had a lot of children, and his sons took over after he passed away. He died in the year 1087 while he was in northern France. Today, people still talk about William because his changes shaped what England became.
You can see statues of him in places like Falaise, where he was born, and learn more about his life and the times he lived in.
