The world is a big word! It means everything that exists — all the space, time, and everything that is, was, and will be. People think about the world in many ways. Some see it as one big place. Others see it as many parts.

In science, the world or universe is everything that exists. In stories and ideas, the world is what our minds try to understand. We also talk about world history, which is the story of all humans together.

The word “world” comes from very old languages. In Old English, it was weorold. Other old languages had similar words, like in Old Frisian, Old Saxon, Old Dutch, Old High German, and Old Norse.

Different ideas and stories help us understand the world. For example, Plato thought there were two kinds of worlds: one we can see and touch, and another with perfect ideas. Scientists study how the world began with ideas like the Big Bang theory.

The world is a wonderful place to explore! It includes Earth, all its life, and all the people who live on it. We can learn about many wonderful things together!
