Zurich is a big, busy city in Switzerland. It is the largest city in the whole country and the capital of the canton of Zurich. Picture a beautiful place where lakes, hills, and tall buildings all come together—that’s Zurich!

A City With History

Zurich has been an important place for thousands of years. People lived there over 6,400 years ago! Later, the Romans came and named it Turicum. In the old days, called the Middle Ages, Zurich grew into a very important city. It even helped start big changes in religion, led by a man named Huldrych Zwingli.

Lots to See and Do

Today, Zurich is a place where people come to visit, work, and play. It has many trains, buses, and airplanes. The Zurich Airport and the Zurich's main railway station are very busy places. You can find museums, theaters, and fun parks all around the city. Some cool spots include the Swiss National Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Kunsthaus, and the Schauspielhaus Zürich.

Zurich is known for being a very nice place to live. It has clean streets, good schools, and lots of parks. People here speak many languages, and the city often ranks as one of the best places to live in the world. There are also many shops, restaurants, and places to enjoy delicious food.

  • The city has a famous celebration called the Sechseläuten, where people parade and burn an effigy called “winter.”
