The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church is the biggest group of Christians in the world. It has more than one billion members in many countries. People who belong to the Catholic Church are called Catholics. They meet in special buildings called churches to pray and celebrate together.
The Catholic Church believes it started with Jesus Christ. Jesus chose special followers called apostles to help spread his teachings. The church teaches that the leader, called the pope, is very important. The pope lives in Rome, the capital of Italy. He helps guide the whole church.
Catholics have special ceremonies called sacraments. One very important sacrament is the Eucharist, also called the Mass. During the Mass, people share bread and wine, which they believe become the body and blood of Jesus. This helps them feel close to God.
The Catholic Church also cares for people in need. It runs many schools, hospitals, and charitable groups all around the world. The church teaches that everyone should be kind and help others, especially those who are poor or sick.
The church has many beautiful traditions and artworks. Paintings, music, and buildings like big cathedrals show how people have honored their faith for hundreds of years. The Catholic Church continues to be a big part of many people’s lives today.
