Hero of Alexandria

Adapted from Wikipedia · Explorer experience

An ancient Greek manuscript illustration from the ninth century, featuring Hero of Alexandria.

Hero of Alexandria was a clever Greek thinker who lived in a big city called Alexandria a long time ago, during the time of the Roman Empire. He loved to learn about numbers, machines, and how things work.

Hero made many fun inventions. One of his most famous creations was called the aeolipile. This was an early steam-powered toy that spun around when steam was heated. He also built a machine that gave out water when a coin was put in, like a very old vending machine.

In math, Hero found smart ways to solve problems. He made a special rule to find the space inside a triangle, which helps people solve many geometry puzzles today. Even though we do not know much about Hero’s life, his clever ideas are still remembered and studied by people all over the world.
