The Trojan War
The Trojan War is a famous story from Greek mythology. It happened long, long ago in a place called Troy. Troy was a strong city in what we now call Turkey. The people who fought in the war were the Achaeans, also known as Greeks.
The story began when a prince named Paris from Troy took away Helen, the wife of Menelaus, the king of Sparta. This made the Greeks very unhappy, and many brave heroes came together.
People still love this story today. It was written down in famous poems like Homer’s Iliad. Another great poem, the Odyssey, tells about Odysseus’s trip home after the war.
For many years, people thought Troy was just a made-up place. But an archaeologist named Heinrich Schliemann dug near a town called Hisarlık and found clues that might be from the real Troy. The tale of the Trojan War stays important in history and stories.
