The Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) or (AAST) (Arabic: الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري) is a regional university operated by the Arab League. It offers programs in important areas such as marine transportation, business, and engineering. Most of its campuses are located in Egypt, helping students learn useful skills.
The academy began as an idea in meetings of the Arab League Transport Committee on 11 March 1970. It officially started in 1972 in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. Over time, the academy grew and added more locations, including one in Cairo. Today, AASTMT continues to teach students and support progress in science and technology across the Arab world.
The Arab Academy for Science and Technology
The Arab Academy for Science and Technology teaches students about maritime transport and many other subjects. Its certificates are now equal to those given by universities in Egypt.

From 1991 to 1996, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport helped pay for the academy’s education and training. In 1992, the academy got a training ship called "Aida 4" from the Japanese government.
In 1994, the academy received a simulator from the USA in two steps. It also worked with American experts to build an advanced technology center. The academy has given over 120,000 scholarships to students from 58 countries. In October 1996, its name changed to "The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport" (AASTMT).
Certificates
The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport helps people with sea officer certificates earn university degrees. With approval from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities, people who have a High Seas Second Officer certificate can join any Egyptian university or four-year higher education program after high school.
Marine officers can now move from vocational studies to earn a bachelor's degree in Marine Navigation Technology. Before, someone with a High Seas Captain certificate had to start again in the United Kingdom to get a bachelor's degree. Now, officers can earn both a bachelor's degree and an eligibility certificate in just four years.
Services and student activities
The academy has places for students to live and eat. There is a special area for girls that can hold up to 100 students.
Students can go on trips and play sports. They also have special talks and events. Every year, students plan a big day for families to visit the school. One famous graduate is Marwa Elselehdar, who became Egypt’s first woman sea captain. She works on a training ship called the Aida IV.
Community service programmes and continuous education
The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport offers special educational programs to help people in Alexandria. These programs start every three months and run all year. They happen at the academy’s places in Miami, Sidi Bishr, and downtown, usually in the evenings. Sometimes, the courses are made for groups who work together. Each year, many people from Alexandria take part. There are also summer courses just for children, and many kids join these each year.
