Canada at the 1988 Winter Olympics

Canada hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. This was the first time Canada had hosted the Winter Olympic Games and the second time overall, after the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Hosting the Olympics was an important event for Canada. Athletes from Canada and many other countries came together to compete in fun winter sports.

Canadian athletes won medals at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Even though the games were in Canada, they did not win a gold medal, just like in the 1976 Summer Olympics.

Cross-country skiing

The 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary had cross-country skiing for both men and women. In these events, athletes skied long distances over snowy trails. They used two styles: classical and freestyle. There were relay races where teams of skiers took turns to finish the course.

Figure skating was one of the events at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Athletes from many countries competed in four categories: men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dancing. Each category had talented skaters showing off their skills.

Nordic combined

The men's individual event in Nordic combined had two parts. First, athletes jumped on a normal hill, and only the best two jumps counted. Then, they did a 15 km cross-country ski race. The start times for the race were delayed based on their ski jumping scores.
