Ski jumping at the 1988 Winter Olympics

Ski jumping at the 1988 Winter Olympics was a big part of the games. There were three events held between February 14 and February 24. These events took place at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. A new event was added—the team event. This was the first new ski jumping event since 1964.

One of the most memorable moments came from Britain’s Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards. He finished last in both individual events and had fewer points than others. But his fun-loving spirit and determination made him famous. His story showed that it’s not always about winning. Sometimes, just trying your best and showing courage can make a big impact.

Finland led the medal table, winning all three gold medals. Matti Nykänen won both individual events and helped the Finnish team win. This was the first year with three ski jumping events, making Nykänen very successful.

Yugoslavia won two medals, which were the only ones the country ever won in ski jumping. Later, in 2002, Slovenia won its first medal as an independent country.
