Denmark at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience

Denmark competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21. Danish athletes have taken part in every Summer Olympic Games since the modern era began, except for the 1904 Games in St. Louis. The team from Denmark had 120 athletes, including 79 men and 41 women, who competed in sixteen different sports.

Before the Games began, the Danish Olympic Committee set a goal of winning 10 medals. Denmark did even better, returning home with 15 medals, which included 2 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze. This was Denmark's best performance in the Summer Olympics since 1948. The medals came from many sports such as cycling, badminton, rowing, sailing, swimming, and more.

One of the biggest moments was when the Danish men's handball team won their first ever gold medal. Other notable medal winners included the badminton pair Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen, rower Morten Jørgensen, hurdler Sara Slott Petersen, and Greco-Roman wrestler Mark Madsen.

Two Danish athletes won more than one medal. Track cyclist Lasse Norman Hansen won bronze medals in two events. Swimmer Pernille Blume won gold in the women's 50 m freestyle, giving Denmark its first Olympic swimming title since 1948. She also helped the Danish women's swimming team win a bronze medal.

Danish swimmers worked hard to earn their spots at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. They needed to swim fast enough at big competitions.

On November 4, 2015, five swimmers were picked for the team, including Rikke Møller Pedersen, who holds a world record, and Lotte Friis. A few months later, on May 10, 2016, four more swimmers and a relay team joined, making the swimming team have thirteen members.
