Tolna is a county in central Hungary, on the west side of the Danube. It is part of Hungary today and was also part of the old Kingdom of Hungary. The county is 3,703 km2 big.

Tolna touches several other counties in Hungary. These are Somogy, Fejér, Bács-Kiskun, and Baranya. The biggest city and capital of Tolna County is Szekszárd.

History

Tolna was an old area in the Kingdom of Hungary. Today, it is part of Tolna county in central Hungary. The main city there is Szekszárd.

Demographics

Tolna County is home to many people with different backgrounds and beliefs. In 2015, about 225,936 people lived there.

The main group of people in Tolna County are Hungarians, but there are also smaller groups such as Germans and Roma. When people were asked about their religion in 2022, most said they were Roman Catholic, but many also said they did not follow any religion.

Tolna County has 1 urban county, 10 towns, 5 large villages and 93 villages.

The main city is Szekszárd, which has around 34,000 people. Other important towns include Paks, Dombóvár, Bonyhád, Tolna, Dunaföldvár, Tamási, Bátaszék, Simontornya, Nagymányok, and Gyönk.

There are also many smaller villages in the area, such as Alsónána, Alsónyék, Aparhant, and many more.
