United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia · Adventurer experience

Australian and American athletes compete in an exciting men's rugby sevens quarter-final match at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The United States of America joined the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The United States has been in every Summer Olympic Games except for the 1980 edition in Moscow. Many countries, including America, did not go because of a disagreement over events in Afghanistan. Before the French team entered during the opening ceremony, the United States walked in the parade of nations. The opening ceremony had special performers from both Paris and Los Angeles, the place that will host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Famous athletes LeBron James and Coco Gauff were chosen to carry the flag for the United States during the opening ceremony. James is the first male basketball player to have this honor, and Gauff, at only 20 years old, was the youngest American athlete and the first tennis player to carry the flag. After the games ended, Nick Mead and Katie Ledecky carried the flag during the closing ceremony. Ledecky has won many gold medals, making her one of the best Olympic athletes ever.

The United States joined in all the sports except handball and had more female athletes than male athletes. The United States team won many medals, finishing first overall. This was the fourth time in a row and the 19th time ever that the United States finished first. The United States shared the same number of gold medals as China, but had more silver medals, so they came out on top.

Two days before the games began, it was announced that Salt Lake City would host the 2034 Winter Olympics. This would make it the fifth city to host the Winter Olympics twice.
