The boxing competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia took place at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour. Only men were allowed to compete, and each fight had four rounds, with each round lasting two minutes. Five judges watched the fights and gave points, and the boxer with the most points at the end won the match.
In Olympic boxing, something special happens with medals. Two bronze medals are given out, meaning both fighters who lose in the semi-finals get a bronze medal. There is no extra fight to decide who gets the bronze. Because of this, winning a quarter-final fight means you are guaranteed at least a bronze medal, a semi-final win means you could win silver, and the final decides the gold medal winner. This way, 48 medals were given out in total, with half of them being bronze medals.
