Cybersecurity incidents

In May 2008, a group of hackers took control of Comcast’s website for about five hours by changing important settings. No one was hurt, but Comcast lost money because people could not use their email or phone services.

In July 2015, experts found a problem in software that Comcast used. This problem could let someone show fake login pages to trick people into sharing their passwords.

In November 2015, about 200,000 Comcast customers had to change their passwords after login details were found online. Comcast said this was not because of a problem in their own systems.

In January 2016, experts found issues with Comcast’s home security system. These problems could stop the system from working properly and alert people to problems in their homes.

In December 2023, Comcast told customers that information from about 35.9 million accounts was affected by a problem with their software. This included usernames and encrypted passwords. Comcast asked customers to change their passwords and use extra security steps.

In February 2024, a company that used to collect debts for Comcast had a problem that let some customer information be seen online. This included names, addresses, and account numbers.

In June 2025, reports said that Comcast may have been targeted by a group linked to a foreign government, but details about what happened were not clear.

Criticism and controversies

Some people have not been happy with Comcast over the years. In surveys from 2004 and 2007, many customers said they were not satisfied with the company's service. In 2014 and again in 2010, a contest called "Worst Company in America" chose Comcast as the least popular company in the United States.

Comcast has also faced legal issues. In 2016, a lawsuit claimed the company charged customers for services they did not ask for. The company agreed to improve its customer service and refund some money to affected customers. In 2018, another lawsuit said Comcast added extra charges to bills without permission. The company settled this case by refunding money and promising to be clearer about prices in the future.

Carbon footprint

Comcast shared information about the amount of a type of gas called CO2e that they released into the air. This was measured for the whole year ending on December 31, 2020. The amount was 2,291 Kt, which was a little less than the year before.
