List of boxing organisations

Boxing is a sport where athletes compete by throwing punches at each other in a ring. Over the years, many groups have been created to help organize and manage boxing matches. These groups are called boxing organisations, and they decide who gets to be a champion in different weight classes.

The organisations list the groups that started from the very first one up until today, showing the year each one began. This helps us see how boxing has grown and changed over time.

Some of these organisations are very important and are known as the four major sanctioning bodies. They play a big role in deciding the official champions of boxing. You can find more information about boxing itself here.

Major sanctioning bodies

Professional boxing

There are four big groups that decide who is the best in professional boxing. These groups are very important in the sport. The World Boxing Association started in 1921, and the World Boxing Council began in 1963. The International Boxing Federation started in 1983, and the World Boxing Organization began in 1988.

Amateur boxing

For amateur boxing, there are also important groups. The International Boxing Union operated from 1911 to 1946, and the International Boxing Association has been around since 1964. A newer group called World Boxing started in 2023.
