The Happy Games in London

The 2012 Summer Olympics was a big sports party held in London, England, from July 27 to August 12, 2012. Over 10,000 athletes from many countries came together to compete in fun games like swimming, running, and gymnastics. London was a wonderful host, showing its exciting city and friendly people.

London was chosen to host the Olympics in 2005. This was London’s third time holding the Summer Olympics! A huge new park called Olympic Park was built just for the games, with special places for different sports.

The United States won the most medals, followed by China and the host country, Great Britain. Famous athletes like swimmer Michael Phelps from the United States also took home many medals. For the first time ever, women from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Brunei competed, and women’s boxing was added to the games. The opening ceremony, led by a talented director named Danny Boyle, was very exciting and loved by many.

  • Special symbols called mascots, named Wenlock and Mandeville, were made for the games.
  • A popular song called “Survival” by the band Muse was made just for the Olympics.
