The Angles

The Angles were an ancient group of people who lived long ago. They came from a place called the Angeln peninsula, near the coast of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. Their name is the reason we call our country โ€œEnglandโ€ today!

Many Angles moved to Great Britain after the Romans left. They helped create new kingdoms there, like Northumbria and East Anglia. These places still have names from the Angles even today.

A writer named Tacitus wrote about the Angles almost 2,000 years ago. He said they lived near rivers and forests, close to other tribes. Their homes were near the River Elbe, a big river in Europe.

The Angles were good at fishing and farming. They lived in small villages and made tools from metal and wood. When they moved to Britain, they brought their customs and language with them. This helped shape the land and people there for many years.
