Welcome to Caltrain!

Caltrain is a special train that helps people travel along the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley, also called Silicon Valley. It starts in San Jose and goes all the way to San Francisco. Many people use Caltrain to go to work, school, or fun places without needing a car.

Caltrain has 28 stops, and some special stops open only for events like football games. The train has different types of service, like express trains that stop less often and local trains that stop at every station. This makes the trip faster or slower depending on what you need.

The train used to run with diesel engines, but now part of the track uses electric power. This helps make the train cleaner and faster. Even with these changes, the train still stops at many places along the way.

Why People Love Caltrain

Caltrain is very popular because it makes travel easy and fun. People can bring their bicycles on the train, and there are special cars just for bikes. This is great for people who like to ride bikes to work or school. The train also helps keep the air clean by letting lots of people travel together instead of using cars.

Caltrain has been helping people travel since the 1800s. It was built by the San Francisco & San Jose Railroad and later became part of a bigger company. When fewer people started using the train, California helped keep it running. Today, a group called the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board takes care of the train.

Fun Facts About Caltrain

  • Bike-Friendly: Caltrain was one of the first train services to let people bring bicycles. Now, many trains have special cars just for bikes!
  • Fast Service: Some trains, called Baby Bullet, stop only a few times. This makes the trip from San Jose to San Francisco much faster.
  • Clean Trains: New electric trains started running in 2024. They are cleaner and can go faster than the old diesel trains.

Caltrain is a wonderful way to see the beautiful places between San Jose and San Francisco. Whether you’re going to school, work, or just for fun, Caltrain makes the trip easy and enjoyable!
