Calvert Vaux

Calvert Vaux was a talented architect and park designer. He was born in London in 1824 and passed away in 1895. People remember him for making beautiful places where people can relax and enjoy nature.

Vaux worked with another designer named Frederick Law Olmsted. Together, they created famous parks like Central Park and Prospect Park in New York City. Their designs helped cities grow with green spaces for everyone.

Vaux also designed many buildings. He loved making structures that fit well with the natural world. After his partner Andrew Jackson Downing passed away, Vaux kept designing parks and buildings in many places, including Buffalo, New York, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

Vaux taught many people why parks are important, especially in busy cities. His work made cities nicer and helped people enjoy the outdoors. Today, there is a park named after him: Calvert Vaux Park in Brooklyn.
